Primary Engineer Relocates Burnley HQ Office

We’ve kept it hush hush and under wraps for a few months but we are ready to share the exciting news that we have moved our Burnley HQ office!

We’ve been bringing engineering into classrooms around the UK with our fully-funded programmes and competitions since 2005 and since then have been located at a few different locations but for the past 11 years we’ve been in Burnley.

AMS Neve and the owner, Mark Crabtree, have been a huge part of our story, welcoming us into Floor 2 of the AMS Office Tower based on Billington Road in 2013 when we were fizzing with ideas and a team of 16.

Speaking in an article in Lancashire Telegraph in 2016, Mr Crabtree OBE M.A (Cantab) M.SC. said “Getting young children involved and interested in engineering is vital to the country and to the many engineer firms in Burnley”.

Recipient of a great education in Burnley, Mark has come full circle in being a huge supporter of Primary Engineer to assist others to follow in similar footsteps. He has devoted much time and resource to developing and promoting Burnley as a thriving centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering. As part of this activity, he was inspired to launch the “Making it in Burnley” bringing the Burnley Bondholder and Council together focusing on Primary Engineer being made available to all Burnley Primary Schools with the result of 2,500 children able to experience the joys of making electric cars within a year of the launch.

In recent years, Mark has continued to support our “If you were an Engineer” competition, having a specific Burnley region, alongside friendly help for our business functions, including sitting on our Advisory Board until recently.

Mark being interviewed by pupils from Burnley about engineering in music for the ‘If you were an engineer, what would you do’ competition.

Dr Susan Scurlock MBE, CEO of Primary Engineer said “Through Mark and his passion for all things Burnley we could only ever stay local to continue what we have started here with Making it in Burnley© but also as the central point for the activities we deliver nationally”.

So where next?

The new Primary Engineer office in Slaters Terrace overlooking the Leeds and Liverpool Canal

In February we moved closer to the heart of Burnley town centre, relocating to Slater Terrace overlooking the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. This historic building built in the 1840’s which was once the homes for the workers in the weaving mill is steeped in history including a royal visit during the prestigious ‘On The Banks’ redevelopment.

We look forward to working alongside our current partner for the Lancashire ‘If you were an engineer, what would you do?’ competition UCLan at their Victoria Mill campus and AMS Neve and Burnley Borough Council continuing their support of local schools to bring the joy of engineering to the town and continued UK-wide activities from our Burnley base.
