Primary Engineer wins share of East Coast ‘Skills Fund’ from Ørsted
Primary Engineer is delighted to announce they have won a share of the Ørsted East Coast Community “Skills fund”.
Primary Engineer will be delivering the Structures and Mechanisms with Basic Electrics project for up to 60 schools in six locations across the Fund’s geographical East Coast boundary.
Teachers attend a fully funded, one-day, practical Continuing Professional Development course to enable them to deliver whole-class engineering projects. Teachers are partnered with engineering professionals on the day, who also support the Primary Engineer programme in the classroom, by providing a real-world context to pupils’ learning. Teachers are provided with sets of tools, consumables and online resources to deliver the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 projects in the classroom. Teachers and pupils are later invited to attend a celebration event, where teams from the participating schools compete in various challenges and are presented with awards.
Dr Susan Scurlock MBE, CEO and Founder of Primary Engineer said, “We are delighted Ørsted is investing in Primary Engineer, designed to bridge the gap between education and engineering. The programmes will provide pupils with the opportunity to work on inspiring engineering projects and link with local engineering professionals. Additionally, this partnership enables up to 120 teachers with professional development opportunities. Together, we will work to ignite a passion for engineering in young people across the East Coast.”
Imran Nawaz, Ørsted’s Stakeholder Advisor and Community Benefit Fund Manager, said, “Each year, we ring-fence £75,000 of our East Coast Community Fund to be put specifically towards STEM projects. It remains so important to encourage STEM activities across groups, particularly in young people who may be considering their career options. Without local people who are passionate about STEM careers, we wouldn’t have been able to successfully build the world’s largest offshore wind farm right off the coast of Grimsby.”
The Fund is being administered by the independent grant-making charity GrantScape www.grantscape.org.uk.
