The A96 Dualling project in Inverness has created a unique opportunity to engage primary school children in engineering.  Partnering Jacobs and Transport Scotland, we ran two training events at The University of Highlands and Islands in Inverness; the Primary Engineer® Structures, Mechanism and Basic Electrics and Secondary Engineer® Fluid Power Challenge.

At our Primary Engineer® training, we had ten schools attending, all eager to embed Engineering into the curriculum for their students.  Teachers were partnered with Engineers from Jacobs and together they worked to build spaceships, rockets and aliens as we continued with our Space Theme.

It was great to see Cromarty Primary School teachers attend as they have taken part in our Scottish Engineering Leaders Award for the last 5 years and one of their students had won an award for one of their inventions, so it was fantastic to have them involved in the training.

Nina Gatt at Deshar Primary School commented, “This has definitely been the best CPD I have ever attended. I loved the balance of activities and the approachability of all staff involved. Thank you for really motivating me to take engineering into the classroom.”
